First meeting of Asian
American Society of CPAs
August 24, 2004
The first organizational meeting of the Asian American Society of
Certified Public Accountants (AASCPA) was held on August 24, 2004 at
the New York City office of Ernst & Young, one of the four largest
accounting firms in the world. The formation of this organization was
spearheaded by Ernst & Young, the Presidents of the National Council
of Philippine American Accountants (NCPACA), and Chinese American
Society of CPAs. Partners of the big four and other CPA firms will
also be invited to join this organization.
Discussed during the meeting includes the formulation of a business
plan covering the establishment, structure, funding, memberships,
affiliations, fees, and programs. The mission of the AASCPA is to
promote the contributions of Asian American CPAs in the profession, to
serve as a role model for young Asians, to cultivate growth of
accounting knowledge, advance networking and business development, to
serve the public and the community by
disseminating tax, accounting, and other business information, to
foster the study of accountancy in universities and colleges and to
promote a high standard of professional ethics in the profession.
The organization will be set up as not for profit organization and a
tax exempt organization under the IRS code 501(c) 3. The founding
board members conclude that the association will be established slowly
until it attains the national status of the National Association of
Black Accountants (NABA) and the Association of Latino Professionals
in Finance and Accounting (ALPFA).

The attendance included the
following (l-r): Dylan Jeng, Staff – Price Waterhouse
Cooper,
Jeffrey Chin – Senior Partner of EY, Reynaldo L. Padilla
– Partner of Padilla & Company and President of NCPACA, Anthony
Paredes - Partner of AFParedes & Company and President of the
Association of Filipino American Accountants of New Jersey, a chapter
of NCPACA, Liren Wei – Partner of Wei Wei & Company and the
President of Chinese American Society of CPAs, Marc Bernardo –
Partner of Watson Rice & Company (Attending on behalf of Nora
Galleros – Partner of Watson Rice and President of AFAA New York
), Kapil Jain – Partner of EY, Hee Lee – Partner of EY
and Dan Hobson – Manager of the AICPA minority initiative
program.
The group scheduled the meetings on third Tuesday of every month.
The next scheduled meeting will be on the 21st of September 2004.
